Frequently Asked Questions about Painting & Remodeling Services
Q: When do I need to use a primer?
A: Almost always, but here are several occasions where a primer is required. Any surface that hasn’t been previously painted will always need a primer. If the surface is glossy, stained, has residue from wallpaper glue, or you are going for a drastic color change, we would recommend using the appropriate primer. Each kind of different surface has its own primer e.g., masonry, metal, wood, drywall, etc.
Q: How much does it cost to finish a basement?
A: Lets stick with new construction here (a home about 1-20 years old), since many factors can add to the cost of finishing a basement in an older home. A good rule of thumb is that it will cost around $30/sq.ft. Adding a bathroom or high end entertainment features will add to that price. A bargain price considering building costs for new construction and additions cost around $125/sq.ft.
Q: How long is the exterior painting season?
A: Typically we start adding exterior jobs to the schedule in April and can usually paint exteriors well into November.
Q: What kind of prep work is done for interior painting?
A: In a typical interior painting project we will repair any damage to the walls, ceiling or trim. These repairs will be sanded smooth and sealed with a latex primer. Gaps between the trim and the wall will be caulked. Any woodwork that is to be painted will be scuffed and cleaned.
Q: Are there guarantees on your services?
A: We guarantee the price on our painting quotes. We’ve been at this long enough, if we miss something it’s on us. We also offer a 3 year warranty against flaking or chipping on our exterior projects.
Q: Can I paint vinyl or aluminum siding, what about bricks?
A: Yes to all three. However, vinyl siding can’t be painted darker that it was originally, as it will absorb more heat from the sun and may warp. As long as the surface is clean, dry, and sealed with the proper primers, any of those surfaces can be part of an exterior painting project.
Q: Do you do wallpaper?
A: Yes. These days, though, we do a lot more wallpaper removal than installation.
Q: Who takes care of permits for the remodeling projects?
A: We do. We’ll take care of the permits and scheduling inspections. We also carry current liability insurance, BWC certificate, and contractors bond.
